999 Design

As part of an internship at 999 Design in Glasgow in October 2015, I wrote two blog posts on the theme of tourism and marketing.

Both posts were based on research undertaken as part of my postgraduate degree and as part of the exercise I learned to adapt tone of voice, expressions and overall layout of long-form copywriting to suit a new audience.

At the time of publishing in November 2015, the posts were the best performing blog posts on the 999 Design website.

A Serious Case of ‘Fernweh’ – On Blogging, Social Media and the Travel Industry

The first blog post, published on the 6th November 2015, looks at travel bloggers’ and influencers’ work in promoting destinations.

Scotland the Brand – The Story Behind the Image

The second blog post, published on 18 November 2015, tells the story of how Scotland  became the popular tourist destination it is today.

Based on research on Scottish heritage tourism, the post takes a closer look at what we consider to be the ‘real’ Scotland and turns the notion on its head. With its roots in 19th century Romanticism, it turns out there is little authenticity and more of a fully branded experience in how we see Scotland.
